The Chiang Mai Islamic Committee, together with the Federation of Chiang Mai Industries and the Chiang Mai Chamber of Commerce has initiated “Halal Industrial Zone” in Doi Lor, located in Chiang Mai, Northern Province of Thailand. The new Halal Industrial zone will boost up halal market and expand the export of halal food to China, India and Russia.
Mr. Kavinthorn Vongluekiat, chairman of Chiang Mai Islamic Committee revealed that Chiang Mai is the potential province in terms of its ability to produce plenty of quality agricultural goods, which is processed and sold around the world, mainly in Europe, Muslim Countries, and Southern of China. Chiang Mai, not only, blossomed as the center of northern tourist hotspot, but also as the center of trade and investment. Chiang Mai has a strong Islamic Committee who is ready to support potential entrepreneurs to develop halal business. Presently, more than 100 entrepreneurs have applied for halal licenses of agriproducts processions. Chiang Mai also has a geographic advantage and good connectivity via road and air, making it easy to connect and export to neighboring countries such as China, India and Russia. The current investors in Halal goods have seen great returns on investment and could increase sales margin from 10 million Baht to 100 million Baht. Some players could even shoot up its margin to a billion Baht.
There has been a lot of interest from many parties like local halal investors, new business developers and foreign investors, which is a good sign for the success of the project. The expected investment budget will be approximately1.2 Billion Baht. Each year halal food in Chiang Mai has a circulation of around 7-8 Billion Baht. If the Halal Industrial Zone is set up, the expected sales would rocket to 10 Billion Baht. The project should finish within next 3 years. There is high potential for good return on investment of Halal products in Chiang Mai, therefore Indian investors should not hesitate to invest in the opportunities available in Chiang Mai.
