Tourism Authority of Thailand, Mumbai received the award for “Best Destination International “on behalf of Thailand. The award was presented at the Cinemascape gala, held on 24 October at Trident Nariman Point, Mumbai.
This is the 6th Cinemascape event and the second time that Thailand participated. Cinemascape was held to promote the sale of Bollywood films, concurrently with the 14th Mumbai Film Festival. The film bureau of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand was present and had a booth in the event to provide information on making films in Thailand.
In the first nine months of 2012, 464 films were shot in Thailand. These included documentaries, movies, commercials, TV programs, music videos. They boosted the tourism industry by 1.468 billion baht (48 million USD) the equivalent of 48.96% increase from last year.
India is the second country, after Japan, that shot the most films in Thailand, contributing 180.21 million baht (5.8 million USD) to the Thai tourism industry.
