Thai businesses are among the forerunners of foreign investors in Karnataka. The CP Group—one of the world’s largest agricultural conglomerates, arrived in the State in 1997. Since 2004, Thai Airways is one of the first airlines to directly link Bangalore to international destinations. Following suit, Pruksa Real Estate entered the city’s housing market in 2009, after only one year of feasibility study. Italian-Thai Development (ITD-CEM), which has been is building several large-scale infrastructure projects across India and is now building Bengaluru’s Metro Rail Project. Moreover, Karnataka has the largest Thai community in India. Over 500 students and 120 Thai business people have made Karnataka their home in India
Over the years, Thai companies have contributed to Karnataka’s economic growth. Through its contract farming business, the CP Group is increasing the household income of more than 500 families. Its two poultry factories, as well as the seeds technology business, provide employment for thousands of workers in Karnataka. CP’s specialists are transferring the latest know-how in agribusiness to farmers state-wide. Thai Airways’ success has prompted the other international airlines to join the competition, thereby making travel easier and less expensive for increasingly peripatetic Bangaloreans. Pruksa has invested US$ 10 million in Bangalore’s residential market. Their business is providing affordable housing for the burgeoning middle class, as well as creating thousands of jobs for the local economy. The company’s ethical business practice of transparency and strict adherence to State regulations has been commended by the Bangalore Metropolitan Residential Development Authority. ITD-CEM is building world-class infrastructure for Bengaluru’s public transportation system.
Shri Rangavath expresses hope that more Thai businesses will come to Bangalore and encourages Thailand to establish a long term partnership with Karnataka and India as a whole.
