Thai Ambassador Visited Vizag, Proposed Sea Connectivity

Ambassador Pisan Manawapat, Mr.Chanchai Charanvatnakit, Thai Consul General in Chennai, along with ASEAN Ambassadors and diplomats visited Visakhapatnam on 28 April 2012 at the invitation of CII to speak at a conference on “South India – ASEAN Trade & Investment: Exploring New Opportunities.”

At the conference, the Thai Ambassador presented an overall economic picture of Thailand as well as the Thai Government’s projects and measures to boost economic growth in the aftermath of the severe flood last year. Click here for the Ambassador's powerpoint presentation.

Ambassador Pisan informed the audiences of a mega project for constructing the Dawei deep sea port in Myanmar, which is being undertaken by ITD, a leading Thai construction company, in joint venture with the Government of Myanmar, for which there are many opportunities that the Vizag steel plant could participate.

The Thai Ambassador pointed out that apart from being India’s second largest deep sea port, Vizak is also strategically located to anchor a new, shorter trading route linking India and South East Asia via the Dawei deep sea port once it has been completed.
