On 15 July 2011, H.E. Mr. Prasittidesh Vichitsorasatra, Consul-General of Thailand in Kolkata spoke at the business seminar organized by Bharat Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata of the huge potential of trade and investment cooperation between Thailand and India, especially in the eastern part.
The delegation was headed by Mr. Maitri Inthusut, governor of the the southern province of Trang. The governor said about the vibrant economy of the province with the vast rubber plantation area. He mentioned also on other attractions of the province including “underwater wedding” and beautiful beaches and islands.
H.E. Mr. Prasittidesh also talked about the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata’s consular areas covering 5 states and 1 territory in the east of India. He mentioned on Thailand’s long relations with India and deepening bilateral economic cooperation especially after the commencement of the Thailand-India FTA negotiation, and lately the visit to India by Prime Minister of Thailand. Thailand’s economic activities in West Bengal including several construction mega projects operated by the Italian Thai Development Co. such as the ongoing building of new airport terminal and the underground metro, etc. He expressed his willingness to support business cooperation between business communities of the two countries, including this time the business matching between Thai rubber-wood industry and rubber products delegation and the Indian interested parties.
The business matching afterward proved to be fruitful. The Indian side showed a lot of interest in doing business on rubber and rubber wood product with Thailand. Several Thai entrepreneurs received some purchasing orders from the Indian business people.
