NEW DELHI, India – 25 August 2011 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) on 23 August 2011 received the Most Innovative Promotions by an NTO Award in the Today’s Traveller Award 2011 organized by Gill India Communications Pvt. Ltd., the publisher of Today’s Traveller and Newswire magazines. The award is in recognition of TAT’s proactive marketing activities that emphasize constructive engagement with travel trade partners in India and Thailand. Initiatives launched by the office during 2010-2011 included wedding planners familiarization trips to Thailand, a social media campaign targeting youths, joint promotions with India’s travel agents in Tier II cities, and print ads designed exclusively to attract the Indian market.
India is one of the highest tourist-generating markets for Thailand. TAT is estimating that up to 930,000 Indians will have visited Thailand by the end of 2011. Indian leisure travelers generally go for shopping and sightseeing in Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, and Ko Samui, with an increasing number also heading to Krabi, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, and Kanchanaburi. Recent years have also shown a marked rise in the number of Indian weddings and golfers from the subcontinent in Thailand.
