Thai Food Promotion
Royal Thai Embassy, New Delhi
The Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi, for the very first time, organised the Thai Food Promotion event in collaboration with the International Institute of Culinary Arts (IICA), New Delhi from 20-24 September 2018. The Embassy had the privilege to have the celebrated Chef, M.L.Kwantip Devakula, one of the judges of MasterChef Thailand for this event. Inorder to reach out to a wider Indian food enthusiast, interested to try their hands to cook authentic Thai food, the Embassy took the initiative to organise a demo Thai cooking class with the students at IICA, which is India’s first culinary institute to be recognized by Edexed, UK and City & Guilds UK. India’s leading Lifestyle channel, GoodTimes, a former flagship of NDTV Lifestyle, partnered with the Embassy and IICA to shoot the whole event.
Chef Kwantip and selected students from IICA shopped for the condiments, fresh vegetables and all other ingredients at the food bazaar of Delhi known as the India National Airways Market, popularly known as the INA market. INA is a hub for all local speciality and imported products. Most of the ingredients for Thai food and Thai products can be found here.
At IICA where the demo class and the shoot eventuated. The Chef gave the students a preview of all the things they will need before diving into the recipe itself.
Chef Kwantip effortlessly whipped up dish after dish, each outstanding, and demonstrating painstaking perfection!
Chef Kwantip cooked up a most memorable meal with Thai Appetizer, two Thai main course and Thai Dessert.
Appetizer: 'Plah Gung' or Spicy Prawn with Lemongrass and Peppermint
Main Course: 'Tao Jeaw Lon' or Soyabean Savoury Dip
Main Course: ‘Pla Chon Foo’ or Crispy fish puffs
Dessert: ‘Kha Nom Kho’ or Stuffed coconut balls in coconut milk
Whether some viewers watch videos for sheer entertainment, or others want to improve their cooking skills to try out the recipe in their own kitchen, watch out the episode by Chef Devakula at GoodTimes which will be aired sometime in October.
