NEW DELHI, August 18 – BUSINESS STANDARD – The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has shown interest in introducing a Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) mechanism in collecting service tax. In direct taxes like income tax TDS has been able to reap benefits to the government. Hence, the government is willing to do the same in case of service tax. – FINANCIAL EXPRESS – Hero MotoCorp which has parted ways with its Japanese partner Honda, has decided to stop using Honda name by the end of this year, otherwise as per the agreement between the two Hero MotoCorp is eligible to use Honda name for its product till 2014. - FINANCIAL EXPRESS – Global fashion giant Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH) has decided to make an investment of $25 million in its premium brand Charles and Keith (C&K) in India in cities like Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Ludhiana. LVMH already has 229 stores across Asia and West Asia under its Charles & Keith and Pedro brands. FINANCIAL EXPRESS – Sahara India Power Corporation and Korean East-West Power Co. have signed an agreement to jointly participate in tariff-based bidding for ultra mega power projects (UMPPs) and other opportunities in India to add up to a total capacity of 6,000 mw power plants through mega projects in India. - FINANCIAL EXPRESS – Australian government has decided to train one hundred thousand miners from the India. Both the countries have finalized the talks regarding the same and this step could be considered as a good opportunity for Indian workers as they would get certified in the respective training, hence honing their skills much better. - FINANCIAL EXPRESS – The Indian personal computer (PC) market has grown 2.5% to 2.5 million units. PC shipments from Acer, Dell, HP and Lenovo represent 50.4% of the market share but Acer, for the first time, left behind its rival HP in terms of Indian market share. - FINANCIAL EXPRESS – According to the study done by Deloittee, it is estimated that in India there is great growth opportunity for electric vehicles (EVs) in coming years as of the total cars sold in 2010 EVs have share of about 0.27%. – ECONOMIC TIMES – Fiat, the Italian carmaker has decided to make diesel engines for Maruti Suzuki’s famous line-up cars like Swift, Ritz, DZiRE and SX4 at its Ranjangaon plant as Maruti’s captive capacity has failed to meet rising domestic demand. ECONOMIC TIMES – According to the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) export is estimated as USD 75 billion this year. Software and services export would be USD 64 billion, growing at 10 % in the year 2011. – LIVEMINT - Jet Airways (India) Ltd has decided to introduce more low-fare flights, following the path of its competitors and the present Indian market scenario.
