NEW DELHI, August 30 – BUSINESS STANDARD – India and South Africa has decided to take up their bilateral trade to $15 billion by 2014 from $10.64 billion presently. This decision has been taken during the conclusion of the India-South Africa CEOs Forum. The forum is headed by Ratan Tata from India and Patrice Motsepe from South Africa. In coming months both countries would chart out meetings in order to have a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) with the South Africa Customs Union (SACU) comprising Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, and Swaziland - BUSINESS STANDARD – Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday after the release of quarterly gross domestic product (GDP) numbers said that if high growth persisted for the long run, India could lend stability to the world economy. - BUSINESS STANDARD – A negative list of services is being drafted by the Finance ministry called as concept paper. In this paper listed services would not be taxed by the government. The paper released on 29 August contains names of about 27 services such as funeral, burial and mortuary agencies, interest paid on deposits by bank, services provided by independent journalists and sportspersons, dividend on investments, copyright services, toll, betting and gambling, services provided by a political party, services provided by a trade union to its members, and religious services. About 57 per cent of India’s GDP comes from services. The Central government has imposed a 10 per cent tax on 119 services. The government has invited feedback, views and suggestions by September 30 on the concept paper from industry bodies like CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, and PHDCCI. - BUSINESS STANDARD – Peugeot Citroen, a French automobile company wants to enter into the Indian market by making use of the top-to-bottom strategy under which they will target high-end customer first before moving to lower-segment customers. - BUSINESS STANDARD – India and European Union has decided to schedule meeting for talks on bilateral trade on 12-14 September in Brussels. According to the Indian officials, EU has raised its limit of expectations and demand since last few meetings. EU has demanded higher levels of tariff concessions in automobiles and wine. Differences over services, agriculture, chemicals, intellectual property rights (IPR) and government procurement are also yet to be resolved. – LIVEMINT - According to the World Bank, the water requirement for industrial use will quadruple to 120 billion cubic metres by 2025. So, such kind of practices are advisable for the corporate like Maruti Suzuki India Ltd did in the early 1990s by starting a waste water programme by 2003 and had achieved a zero-waste discharge. – REUTERS - Japanese Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda has been chosen as the sixth prime minister in five years.
