NEW DELHI, September 06 – BUSINESS STANDARD – The latest draft of the Land Acquisition Bill has been approved by the cabinet and now that Bill will be tabled in Parliament on 7 August. This new draft of the Bill has taken away some of the farmer-friendly provisions like compensation given to farmers would be four-times the market value instead of six-times. Earlier, land was decided to be regained by the owner if the land after five years of acquisition remains ideal but now that land would return to the state government land authority and not the owner. - BUSINESS STANDARD – Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has decided to go for a two-day visit to Bangladesh in order to discuss various issues and matters that would help both the countries to enhance their economic and political relation. - BUSINESS STANDARD – On India visit of the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Pascal Lamy said at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade appreciating the contributions made by the multilateral trading system during the recent financial crisis through smooth flow of goods and services between countries and peaceful settlement of trade disputes, to capacity building in developing countries. Further, trade ministers from all 153 member-countries will meet during December 15-17 at the WTO headquarters in Geneva to draw a map for the future to sustain the multilateral trading system. - BUSINESS STANDARD – Hero Group, the renowned automobile industry giant announced its first step into the world of hospitality industry. Its first property is expected to come up in Gurgaon by the end of 2012. The total investment towards development of the Gurgaon property is going to be $6500 million. BUSINESS STANDARD – Due to the effects of policy tightening by the central bank, high inflation and uncertainty over global economic recovery India’s services sector grew at the slowest pace in more than two years in August with index of 53.8 points fell from 58.2 in the previous month. - BUSINESS STANDARD – Indian textile industry opposed government on their move of allowing duty-free export of garments from Bangladesh. It also warned them that these move could also lead to tax-free entry of Chinese goods into the country.
