NEW DELHI, October 13 – LIVEMINT – India and Vietnam on 12 October signed a pact to expand their partnership in oil and gas exploration, refining, transportation and supply. The decision by India and Vietnam to deepen cooperation in the energy sector comes on the heels of China exerting “indisputable sovereignty” over the South China Sea, which lies to the east of Vietnam, and asking countries in the region to refrain from oil exploration in its waters. China and India, the world’s fastest growing major economies, are competing for energy resources in various regions to fuel their growth. – BUSINESS STANDARD – With just 17 days to go for the inaugural Indian Grand Prix, Sahara Group on 12 October bought a 42.5 % stake, worth $100 million, in Vijay Mallya’s Force India F1 team. The Force India team is at the sixth position in the Formula 1 constructor's championships with 48 points behind Renault. India will host its first Formula 1 Grand Prix on October 30, on a 5.14 km track with a capacity of 120,000 in Greater Noida built by Jaypee Sports International. – BUSINESS STANDARD – According to Export-Import (Exim) Bank of India’s managing director T C A Ranganathan, the Exim bank will be releasing a fresh line of credit to Africa in the next three years to promote and provide entry to various Indian entrepreneurs to Africa, besides encouraging them to bid for projects in that continent. According to him, Indian exports to Africa had risen from $10.3 billion in 2006-07 to $21.1 billion in 2010-11, primarily due to an increase in exports of transport equipment and petroleum products. – ECONOMIC TIMES – Maruti Suzuki, India's biggest carmaker has decided to halt production of some of its popular models, including the best-selling Swift hatchback, with the ongoing strike at one of its plants disrupting supply of critical components. Until the supply of components resumes, the company will roll out only the Maruti 800, the Eeco, the Omni and the Gypsy models which do not use components made in Manesar.
