NEW DELHI, November 9 – BUSINESS STANDARD – The Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC) in which India is a founding member, was set up in Mauritius in 1997 with Australia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mozambique, Oman, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and Yemen as the member-countries. Yemen held the chair of the IOR-ARC for two years from 2009. Now, India will assume the chair of the association for the next two years and Bangalore is the city which will host the 11th council of ministers’ meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC) on November 9-15 promoting trade and investment among the 18-member countries. – BUSINESS STANDARD – According to market intelligence, Carrefour, the French retail chain, the world’s second largest with revenues topping euro 90 billion, is finalising lease deals across 10 to 12 sites in India to open cash-and-carry (wholesale) outlets. US-based Walmart, German retail giant, Metro; are the few foreign players who have already been able to expand their horizons and marked their presence in the Indian market. – LIVEMINT – Due to crisis in euro zone and slow recovery of the US economy are the few reasons because of which India’s export has marked its lowest growth rate in the last two years this October. Trade deficit in the month also rose to a four-year high as high commodity prices boosted India’s imports bill. Indian exports grew 10.8% in October from a last year to $19.9 billion, the lowest in the last two years, according to data released by commerce secretary Rahul Khullar on 8th November. – ECONOMIC TIMES – South Korean automobile giant, Hyundai has decided to line up 10-15 launches in India in the next four to five years, in an order to protect and boost its market share that is under pressure due to increasing competition. Its market share in India has fallen to 18.3% from 21% in the past 12-18 months due to which it has decided to overhaul its portfolio with stylish so-called "fluidic" designs and enter categories where it has no presence. – ECONOMIC TIMES – Jet Airways will begin daily direct flights from Mumbai to Riyadh and Bangkok from December 14. Flight 9W 70 will depart Mumbai at 7.45 pm and arrive in Bangkok at 1.30 pm local time. The return Flight 9W 69 will depart Bangkok at 2.30 pm local time and arrive in Mumbai at 5.30 pm local time.
