NEW DELHI, January 6 – BUSINESS STANDARD – Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Indian subsidiary, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), is going to play an increasingly important role in designing and developing global vehicles for the Japanese auto company in the coming years. MSIL, which on Thursday unveiled a compact sport utility vehicle, XA Alpha, is likely to roll out two to three global products in collaboration with its parent company over the next two years. Maruti Suzuki has 1,080 engineers at its R&D centre. It has acquired 700 acres in Rohtak and is setting up, what is says is a world-class R&D centre. It’ll begin exporting completely knocked down (CKD) kits to Southeast Asian markets with the Ertiga. The Ertiga comes equipped with 1.4-litre petrol engine and 1.3-litre diesel engine. The sub-four metre Swift Dzire, to be launched next month, will follow Ertiga abroad. – FINANCIAL EXPRESS – According to the figure estimated by Singapore Tourism Board (STB) spending by Indian tourists visiting Singapore increased by 41 per cent to SGD 296 million in the third quarter of last year. STB data showed that a total of 641,000 Indian tourists visited Singapore in the first nine months of last year, a six per cent increase on the year. The five countries accounted for 54 per cent of the total visitors to Singapore, totalling 9.8 million for the period, an increase of 15 per cent from corresponding period in 2010. – FINANCIAL EXPRESS – According to the latest outlook by technology researcher Gartner, worldwide IT spending is forecast to total USD 3.8 trillion in 2012, a 3.7 per cent increase from the previous calendar year. In 2011, worldwide IT spending totalled USD 3.7 trillion, up 6.9 per cent from 2010 levels. All four major technology sectors -- computing hardware, enterprise software, IT services and telecommunications equipment and services - are expected to experience slower spending growth in 2012 than previously forecast, Gartner said.
