Grape shortage threatens India’s wine industry as prices rise 25-30% due to unseasonal Rains in Maharashtra (NewsBytes)
Unseasonal rains in Maharashtra have devastated grape harvests, with Nashik and Sangli areas reporting 80–100% crop losses. As a result, farmgate grape prices have doubled from ₹70–80/kg last year to ₹140–160/kg now. This surge is expected to push wine prices up by 25–30% starting January 2026, especially for entry‑level bottles priced between ₹400–800. India’s wine exports worth ₹30-40 crore annually are also at risk, alongside fresh grape exports facing supply and quality challenges. NRCG scientists project a 50% statewide yield drop due to prolonged rainfall and inadequate sunlight. With wineries restricted to local produce due to tax rules, the industry faces a severe supply shock that threatens both domestic affordability and international competitiveness.
India’s Electronics Manufacturing Grows 6x in a Decade, Exports Hit US$ 39.2 billion in 2024-25 (India Brand Equity Foundation)
India’s electronics and semiconductor industry has expanded nearly sixfold in the past decade, rising from ₹1.9 lakh crore (US$22.8 billion) in 2014‑15 to ₹11.32 lakh crore (US$136 billion) in 2024‑25, driven by initiatives like Aatma Nirbhar Bharat and Make in India. Mobile device manufacturing surged under the PLI scheme, climbing from ₹2.2 lakh crore (US$26.4 billion) in 2020‑21 to ₹5.5 lakh crore (US$66.1 billion), with local manufacturers increasing from just 2 in 2010 to over 300 by 2020. To strengthen domestic value addition, the government launched the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) in 2025, generating proposals worth ₹1.15 lakh crore (US$13.8 billion) against projected investments of ₹59,350 crore (US$7.1 billion). Alongside this, the Semicon India Programme is accelerating the development of India’s semiconductor ecosystem.
