NEW DELHI, February 15 – LIVEMINT – A day after a car bomb injured an Israeli diplomat and three others in the national capital, the Union government on Tuesday called the incident a terror strike but refused to blame anyone for the attack. The government, which is treading carefully after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed Iran for the attack, has, however, started checking on the involvement of Iranian students in the country or Indians who recently returned from Iran. India has friendly bilateral relations with both Iran and Israel. Indian agencies are now looking for a possible connection with three minor bombs that went off in Thailand on Tuesday. An Iranian national, who is suspected to have been carrying one of the bombs, was injured in the blast. Associated Press said the Israeli defence minister accused Iran of being behind the Bangkok incident. India is also seeking information from Georgia where authorities on Monday defused explosives planted on a vehicle belonging to the Israeli embassy. – ECONOMIC TIMES – An attack on an Israeli diplomat in New Delhi may "dampen" and "hurt" India's efforts to carry on trade with sanctions-hit Iran, the head of India's rice trade body said on Tuesday, and may complicate efforts to resolve a trade payment impasse. India has struck a defiant tone over new financial sanctions imposed by the United States and European Union to punish Iran for its nuclear programme, seeking to increase trade and barter arrangements to pay for oil supplies. But an attack on Israeli embassy staff member in New Delhi on Monday, which wounded four people, could add to uncertainties in trade between India and Iran, Vijay Setia, president of the All India Rice Exporters' Association, told Reuters. – ECONOMIC TIMES – Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) said it has increased its production capacity to 2.8 million units annually with the start of the second phase of operations at Tapukara facility in Rajasthan today. The company had an annual capacity to roll out 2.2 million units from Manesar and Tapukara plants. The Tapukara plant initially started operations in July last year with annual production capacity of 0.6 million units. The company had announced to set up a third plant in Bangalore that is scheduled to be operational in the first half of 2013, with an annual production capacity of 1.2 million units. – ECONOMIC TIMES – Swedish carmaker Volvo is looking at capturing 15 per cent share of India's luxury segment by 2020, selling over 20,000 units a year by then, a top official of the company said today. As part of the plans, the wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, Volvo Auto India, will introduce a new global model in the first quarter next year. In the coming years, the influence of the German brands will decrease significantly with emergence of new premium players like Jaguar Land Rover, Porsche and Lexus
