Tamil Nadu plans to construct 121 bridges at a cost of $ 43.28 billion
Tamil Nadu government proposed to construct as many as 121 bridges at a cost of $ 43.28 billion to link various parts of the state and help ensure movement of people and goods.
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today said the bridges would be constructed in 27 districts. Jayalalithaa had earlier directed construction of overbridges, subways and walkways in Chennai and suburbs at a cost of $ 62.75 million this year.
Besides, the Chief Minister had earmarked $ 417 million to improve road infrastructure and it would be taken up under the Comprehensive Road Infrastructure Development Programme.

35 per cent UAE investors see India as most attractive destination
About 35 % of UAE investors have identified India as the most attractive world market for investment, a new report has revealed.
The research, conducted by Lloyds TSB Private Banking, suggests Emirati investors are responding to on-going volatility in financial markets by selling higher risk investments and holding more cash.
"Despite Emiratis' cautious approach to emerging markets in general, 35 % identified India as the most attractive world market for investment," said the report.

NTPC to invest nearly $ 2.21 billion for project in Chhattisgarh
Country's largest power producer NTPC will invest nearly $ 2.21 billion for setting up 1,600 MW first stage of the Lara thermal project in Chhattisgarh.
NTPC's announcement today comes a day after the company increased its generation capacity to 39,674 MW.
The project, which would have a total capacity of 4,000 MW, is expected to see an overall investment of about $ 5.53 billion, according to a company official.

Nestle opens first R&D centre in India
FMCG firm Nestle India yesterday opened its first research and development centre in India to further its understanding of Indian consumers and to provide scientific and technological expertise to rest of its global business.
The company has invested $ 52.86 million in the centre which has come up at Manesar in Haryana. Nestle employees 7,000 people in the country and its products are sold in 4 million outlets across India.

Domestic car sales up 23 per cent, bikes rise 7 per cent in October
Domestic car sales increased by 23.09 % to 1, 72,459 units in October 2012 compared to 1, 40,105 units in the same month last year.
According to the data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), motorcycle sales last month went up by 6.71 % to 9,36,122 units from 8,77,270 units in the same month previous year.
Total sales of commercial vehicles were also up by 7.59 % to 66,722 units from 62,013 units in the year-ago period, SIAM said.
