Uttarakhand, the ‘Spiritual Sovereign of India’ is located at the foothills of the Himalayan mountain ranges. The state shares borders with China (Tibet) in the north & Nepal in the east & inter-state boundaries with Himachal Pradesh in the west & northwest & Uttar Pradesh in the south. The state has close proximity to the national capital of Delhi, a leading market of the country and excellent connectivity with neighbouring states. Uttarakhand has abundant natural resources due to hills and forests. Its agro-climatic conditions support horticulture-based industries. The vast water resources available in the state are also favourable for hydropower.
Total exports from the state stood at US$ 2.35 billion during 2018-19 and reached US$ 1.44 billion during April-September 2019. At current prices, Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Uttarakhand stood at around INR 2.37 trillion (USD 32.87 billion) in 2018-19. According to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the cumulative FDI inflows, during April 2000 to June 2019, stood at around US$ 698 million.
