Tamil Nadu, the fourth largest states of India is the southern-most Indian state, surrounded by Andhra Pradesh on the north, Karnataka & Kerala on the west, Indian Ocean on the south, and Bay of Bengal on the east. It is among the most industrialised states in the country. Tamil Nadu has strong human resource development with 59 universities, 40 medical colleges, 517 engineering colleges, 447 polytechnics & 20 dental colleges. At current prices, Tamil Nadu’s GSDP was about INR 16.06 trillion (USD 222.58 billion) in 2018-19. Between 2011-12 and 2018-19, Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) expanded at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 11.46 percent to INR 16.06 trillion (USD 222.58 billion) whereas the Net State Domestic Product (NSDP) expanded at a CAGR of 11.45 percent to INR 14.41 trillion (USD 199.69 billion. Total merchandise exports from the state stood at USD 29.75 billion during 2017-18. During 2018-19, the exports stood at USD 22.53 billion. According to the DPIIT, cumulative FDI inflows in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during April 2000 to December 2018 stood at USD 29.28 billion.
